Track Premiere: Upsetting - "In November on Normal St"
Upsetting is a four piece sub-pop emo band based out of the DFW (TX) area who use familiar choruses and punchy melodies to take a look at the inner struggles of self-doubt, depression, and anxiety. The band consists of Kevin Adkins (he/him) playing bass, Charlie Debolt (they/them) on drums, Caleb Lewis (they/them) playing guitar, and Drew Kee (he/him) on guitar. Upsetting is surely the opposite of how I would describe the music coming out of the Denton band. Following the band’s 2018 debut LP “Everything I’ve Done So Far” comes a string of hard-hitting singles throughout the past year such as “Donnie,” “Picking Up The Empties,” and their latest offering in September “Eye of a Needle.”
Now, we are honored to be premiering Upsetting’s newest single, “In November on Normal St.”
“This song is our last release of the year, and was one of the first songs out of our new releases that we recorded. The song was written not long after we experienced the loss of our drummer's cat, Donnie, who was hit by a car. This track, as well as another named "Donnie", are both about the experiences felt when losing a loved one. The very melancholy, almost creepy beginning and soft beginning are juxtaposed against heavy crashing choruses to fully divulge the roller coaster of emotions felt when processing death and loss. We're also stoked about this single because it is the first track release we've been able to include Drew's lead on and that's helped fill out our sound significantly.” - Upsetting

If you had to describe yourself using any Broadway musical, which one would best describe you?
Beetlejuice. Someone recently reviewed our music as "a little too creepy" so we're trying to lean into that.
What was the first album/CD you ever bought for yourself?
Charlie - "52nd Street" Billy Joel
Caleb - "And Justice for All" Metallica
Kevin - "Millenium" Backstreet Boys
Drew - "Ride the Lightning" Metallica
Dream tour - If you could book your ideal dream tour to open for any 2 artists, who would it be?
It'd be really cool to tour with Number Girl from Japan. And honestly, rather than try to think of another bigger/well known band, we've been trying to manifest the possibility of going on tour with our close friends in Record Setter once touring is a possibility again. They did an incredible job with their recent album, and it would be super rad to go on tour as support and watching them keep rising up as a group.
